Owando is the capital of the Cuvette department, with a population of around 40,000, and stretches along two main roads. The Owando district has seen the birth of three presidents of the Republic, all members of the PCT: Marien Ngouabi, Joachim Yhombi Opango and Denis Sassou N'Guesso. In Owando, the policy of "accelerated municipalization" has changed the face of the town: the new large market is well organized, where you can find just about anything you're looking for. The Marien Ngouabi stadium, refurbished in 2007, is one of the city's landmarks. Teams train here daily and some national championship matches are played here.
