Djambala is the capital of the Plateaux region. It's a dusty town beyond the savannah, the center of local power, and the penultimate town to be accessible without a 4x4. The small town stretches from plot to plot, often built of mud bricks on wooden frames. A few things stand out in this sleepy landscape: the vast (cement) houses built by the regime's dignitaries from the town or region, a prefecture facing a deserted, theatrical stage built under the one-party system, and the large antennas of the MTN operator installed in the town center. And, of course, there's the inevitable nganda, owned by a minister, where all Djambal's youth gather at weekends. And yet, here too, the essence of the Congo is at work: the only road leading to Lékana is a corso where the whole town meets. On this tarmac, people eat kebabs, dance on Saturday evenings, watch each other and exchange the latest news. Last but not least, Djambala is the town of countless fireflies that light up the greenery between the plots. Tourism being rare here, you'll be greeted with polite astonishment. The local hotel managers, who run the businesses of owners living in Brazzaville, are more accustomed to seeing a passing clientele. To leave Djambala, a beautiful straight road from Lékana plunges into a superb valley. Beyond Djambala, travel becomes more uncertain, but it is possible to descend to the Grand Niari without passing through the Pool.
