After a good hour and a half on a paved road to cover the 101 km from Franceville, we arrive in Léconi. This small village of over 7,000 inhabitants stretches upstream from the road, as the Eaux Claires district belongs to the commune. People come here to visit the cirques of Léconi, its white, pink and green canyons, and to marvel at the magnificent surrounding lakes, rivers and wildlife park. The lakes are half-day excursions, and the guide's fee will be negotiated on the same basis as for the canyon excursions. All tours generally depart from Leconi, which is the only place to stay if you're only planning to stay in a hotel. However, it is possible to linger in the villages, either staying with local people or in tents, but only after obtaining permission from the village chief. In the evening, Léconi enjoys a sparkling atmosphere. The streets have no street lighting, so don't forget your flashlight! Several maquis in the main street play music and offer Régab for a pittance. It was in this village that the film Le Collier du Makoko (Makoko's Necklace ) was partly shot.
