Brazzaville's first surprise is its airport. Ultra-modern, made of glass and steel, it marks a break with its predecessor, a small, dilapidated building where travellers jostled to get to the counters. When you disembark, you'll need to present your yellow fever vaccination certificate. Don't forget it, along with your other travel documents! Then it's just a matter of waiting until you reach the police station, where you'll be checked. All in all, it will take you about an hour and a half to get out of the airport.

COMPAGNIE OCÉAN DU NORD

Bus and coach

The Ivorian company's buses - real long-haul buses in fairly good condition - cover much of the north of the country. Book your tickets as early as possible, as buses, especially to Ouesso, fill up well in advance, especially at weekends. Allow over 12 hours to get to Ouesso. To make a reservation, you'll have to wait at the company's ticket office. Buses regularly serve the main towns: Pointe-Noire, Ngo, Gamboma, Oyo, Edou, Obouya, Owando, Makoua, Ouesso, Bétou, Impfondo...

PORT DE YORO

Port
2/5
1 review

Yoro harbour is an Enclave at the end of Mpila. The place is named after Yéro Thiam, Senegalese owner in the 1950 s of the land where the port is established. Its isolated situation in the city centre by the deposits of beverages, hydrocarbons and old shipyards gives the curious impression of leaving the capital. A point, planted in the middle of a small roundabout with the inscription «Saint Tropez», can lead to an abuse of palm or tropical heat. In the port area where a large fish market is being held, the detritus of the streets shows the intense activity of the place. The port, past a customs station that looks like a cabane hut abandoned, is installed along a cove at the confluence of the Tsieme and Congo. A few dozen canoes are moored there. Mpila was, before French colonization, a téké village and a prosperous port of commerce. The last colonial leader of the village, Mbankwa, died in 1916 and was buried here. His grave, characterized by an opening to nourish the spirit of the deceased by offering, in agreement with batéké mortuary rites, is now forgotten. Close to the old shipyards.

Pleasant high-quality internet café with a well-ventilated ceiling with clocks, a black and white film airport, giving the wall the time of distant capital. The centre also makes fax, photocopying and travel agency.

POSTE

Cyber cafs and communication spaces

Forget it, it doesn't work, at least not in the terms that are known to you. You'll be able to send a postcard from the Congo if you would like it but don't put it in the beautiful mailboxes you'll find in town: we throw peanuts… and your letter will remain there until your next passage! If the letters «pass» in ten or fifteen days for a shipment between Paris and Brazzaville, the receipt of parcels is more random, call private companies for completely safe shipments. For those planning to settle in the Congo, the opening of a post-secondary box is required: this is the main activity of this major central position.

ROYAL AIR MAROC

Airline and services

Royal Air Maroc is Morocco's national airline. It links Paris-Orly to Brazzaville via Casablanca three times a week (Wednesday, Friday and Saturday). A few extra hours to make the journey, which may suit tighter budgets, all for a level of comfort equivalent to that of other major international airlines. The only - slight - downside is that departure and arrival times in Brazzaville are often in the middle of the night. It is advisable to confirm your return ticket with the airline a few days before departure.
