The animation in Miragoâne contrasts with the torpor of other small towns. It is due to the port whose deep waters allow large vessels to dock at wharf without any problems. Some of the goods are sold on the spot, in narrow streets that pertain to customs. Buyers come from everywhere in search of good business. Unfortunately, the city was hit very hard by the 2010 earthquake, and many buildings did not hold up. Reconstruction has since, however, enabled the city to regain a bit of its old face. Balance sheet, the October 2016 cyclone Matthew left a few traces of its passage.
