The city grew early in the late th century. It remains at this time of fortifications of fortifications near the harbour, as well as two forts built on the surrounding bleak: Fort Garit and Fort Liberté. It is also the "small homeland" of Soulouque, which became the emperor under the name Faustin I. We cultivate lots of pineapple and you can buy along the national road of sweets called Sweet Macoss, which has the consistency of our almond paste. Unfortunately, the epicentre of the earthquake was very close to Petit-Goâve and the city suffered enormously. Above all, flooding after the earthquake made the situation even more difficult. If some of the rubble is still visible in some places, the remarkable cleaning work that has been organized has borne fruit. Some houses in the centre seem to be barely standing, in equilibrium. An independent drinking water system has begun to be built in Petit-Goâve, which will be managed and maintained by the premises, pending more serious funding.
