The time is long gone when the Dutch pirate Van Noort anchored there to rest from his antics! Located in a bay surrounded by hills, Huasco is an active mineral port and an important tourist center. If you have time, we recommend that you walk 1 km north along Playa Grande beach to visit the mouth of the Huasco River, a coastal wetland of about 1,000 hectares. At Huasco Bajo, you can observe a wide variety of waterfowl species. In summer, visit the surrounding beaches, including Tres Playitas, Los Toyos, Baratillo, Agua de Luna and Caleta Angosta.
