Hidden away in the old town, near the Zaffer Gate, these workshops are the only place in Aurangabad where Himroo shawls, hand-woven from cotton, silk and silver threads, continue to be made. This art was developed as a cheaper alternative to the extravagant brocades of silk and gold thread (Kam Khab) woven for royalty in the 14th century. Aurangabad Himroo shawls and saris, most of whose motifs are inspired by Ajanta frescoes, are highly sought-after. They can be found in the exhibition halls around the market.
