DAVID SASSOON LIBRARY

This magnificent building, which dates back to the 1870s, is on the list of 145 protected historical monuments. The city's mechanical institute of dockers that occupied the premises moved out in 1938 and the place became a library and reading room. It is the oldest library in Mumbai. It contains thousands of books, some printed as early as the late 18th century. It is frequented by many students but also many other visitors who come to enjoy the idyllic setting and the interior gardens.
