THE CASTLE NAGGAR

Overlooking the valley, this medieval castle built by Raja Sidh Singh in 1460 is a quick but interesting visit. Its architecture is typical of Himachal Pradesh. It is now run by the tourist office and houses a hotel with large rooms and a restaurant. Just below the castle, the Gauri Shankar Temple dedicated to Shiva dating from the ^12th century is also worth a visit. A little higher up, one can also visit the institute of the Russian painter, scientist and explorer Nicolas Roerich.
