GOLGHAR
Grain silo built in 1786, capable of holding up to 137,000 tons of grain and offering a fine view of Patna.
This monstrous grain silo, whose architecture is inspired by stupas, was built in 1786 by the British. With a height of 29 m and a diameter of 125 m, this half-sphere, topped by a spiral staircase and reminiscent of an astronomical observatory, could hold up to 137,000 tonnes of grain. This silo was supposed to be the first (and ultimately the only) of a long series, and was designed to combat famine in the region (the 1770 famine was devastating)... Today, the Golghar offers a beautiful view of the city.
