HAVELI D'ANANDI LAL PODDAR
A haveli with a highly decorated façade to the east of the city, and courtyards with densely-painted frescoes
Built in 1902, the Anandi Lal Poddar haveli's richly decorated façade stands to the east of the city. It is one of the few havelis to have been restored by its owners. The inner courtyards feature dense frescoes depicting Krishna's adventures with his shepherd companions, the lovable gopis. Other frescoes depict more or less fantasized visions of Chinese, French or English architecture. The haveli also houses the Dr Ramnath A. Poddar Haveli Museum, inaugurated in 1920.
