A sacred spring springs directly from the mountain, at the foot of the Bab el-Ansar gate, perfect for an hour-long stroll
This is the sacred spring that gushes directly from the mountain, and which was at the origin of the foundation of the city, allowing the inhabitants to get drinking water and to irrigate their farms. It is about ten minutes walk from the Bab el-Ansar gate. From there, you can see women working at the washhouse and, as you walk up, you come to a house with a beautiful view of the watercourse and its source. The place is also the starting point of a wonderful walk of a good hour to reach the old Spanish mosque overlooking Chefchaouen.
