The island lights up with multicoloured garlands. They all honor Christmas. Without snow but celebrated with dignity with local animations.
Christmas is a very important time in the West Indies. In Saint-Martin, the local culture is combined with the more Americanized Dutch culture. Santa's house can be visited at Cripple Gate throughout December, often causing traffic jams. The program includes cake tasting, homemade punch and Christmas entertainment. From December 20 to 24, the town of Marigot is alive with the colors and atmosphere of Christmas, with musical entertainment, a visit from Santa Claus, a parade, and the famous serenades or "chanté Nwel".
