Logone Birni is located some 40 km south of Kousséri, still on the Chadian border. The road leading to Logone Birni and on to the Waza park, to the south-west, and on to Maroua, is a secondary road in poor condition. This makes access to the town difficult.Logone Birni, which means "Logone stronghold", is a town in decline, with many abandoned houses. Even the Sultan's palace and fortifications no longer look their best. Struck by inter-community conflicts during 2021, and until now crushed by geo-political tensions specific to the region, the town's atmosphere has been one of mourning for over 2 years.Logone Birni used to be a pleasant town with a change of scenery, crossed by the Logone, a river full of fish that changes color according to the season and provides a livelihood for the region's inhabitants, and where hundreds of wild ducks stop during their migrations. Fishing in the Logone is a fascinating spectacle: early in the morning, the fishermen set off in their pirogues to take up their nets, and the river is then filled with small boats of all kinds working to bring in the fish. The natural setting of the town and the landscapes that emerge from its outskirts are a consolation, but also a real heartbreak when you think of the situation in the area over the last ten years or so, and the conflicts that have raged there in turn. A few rice and millet fields on the outskirts of the town provide the bulk of the agricultural resources, but trade with Chad and the nearby presence of Kousséri keep the town supplied with foodstuffs and other everyday goods that pass through the region. Today, Logone-Birni still bears the scars of conflict and has not yet recovered from its wounds. It would therefore be naive to think that the town is ready to open its arms to the carefree lifestyle implied by leisure tourism. Let's give it time.
