150 km northeast of Waza, on the Chadian border, just opposite N'Djamena the capital of Chad, lies the town of Kousséri. It is the hub of trade between Chad and Cameroon, but also Nigeria, only about kilometres away from the west. The road to access it, borrowed by these trucks, is a main road in northern Cameroon. It is in good condition.Kousséri is separated from N'Djamena by the waters of the rivers Logone and Chari, who come to this place and who do not hesitate to leave their beds during the rainy season, flooding the surrounding flat land. A bridge was built on the Logone to connect the two cities, but many are still those who prefer to cross the river by canoe, a more economical mode of transport and, above all, the advantage of avoiding customs stationed at the border to control the flow of goods between Chad and Cameroon in this place. At the bridge is a large animated market, where all kinds of objects are found. Barter is a transaction method commonly used by small local merchants. Kousséri is not a very interesting city. It only deserves a detour if you want to discover the Logone or southern Chad.In the surrounding area there are large fields of millet that regularly plunder the many birds living in the region. This is the nightmare of farmers. These birds inhabit mostly the nearby Kalamaloué park where there are also large monkeys and many animals in transit for Waza park. It is not uncommon, for example, to cross elephants along the road, especially at night. The climate in the region is sahelian, so particularly dry and hot. We must therefore equip ourselves accordingly. To believe some of the conversations in public transport, this road has a very bad reputation because of pirates and robbers who séviraient at night. So it is more prudent to drive the day.To avoid taking the bush taxi, it is possible to bargain with a taxi or car owner to make its journey more comfortable in northern Cameroon.
