At the top of the Nkol-Nyada hill, this large white building, built by the Chinese in 1978, was inaugurated on May 15, 1982. Some scoffing Cameroonians tell the story that the Chinese found gold in the hill during construction. In order to bring it back to China in peace, they claimed that workers had died on the site, and used the wooden coffins provided to hide their booty. The Palais des Congrès remains the venue for many major political events.
