Registered in the heart of the Cameroonian hills, the political and administrative capital of the country has benefited from the power of power since independence. Clean streets, new buildings, surfaced roads. Many universities and large schools have also elected their homes, including the Polytechnic School in the student district of Melen, about 5 min from the city centre. Everything is done to make the display of the regime of Paul Biya presentable in the eyes of the world. And the arrival at Mvan bus station allows the traveller to admire another jewel of the country, the célébrissimes breweries of Cameroon. The "city of the seven hills" has also been spoiled by nature. There is a mild, almost temperate climate. We're far from the oppressive wetness of the interior, or the flood of rain that the coastline is experiencing. Although a thunderstorm in Yaoundé, in the middle of September, leaves the memory of a wonderful natural shower. The city stretches over 15 km and each district is bordered by the hills, plateaus and valleys surrounding the city centre. The popular classes are on the slopes and the lowlands (Ballatore, Mvog-Mbi, Mokolo, Madagascar, Mvog Ada, Elig-Edzoa and Ntaba) when the more affluent populations take up the height (Bastos, Etoudi in its pompously part called Santa Barbara, Odza still called Kuwait City). All ethnic groups in the country are present in the capital, and the Bamilékés occupy as a central place in the city's economy. Here too, few taxis are not coming from the West.A cosmopolitan city, in the colonial past, Yaoundé has several historic sites and monuments to visit, making it one of the favourite destinations of tourists visiting Cameroon. Unlike Douala, more modulated and congested, it looks like a well-ventilated city.Indeed, vegetation is omnipresent on the city's topography, the avenues are wide and the population, estimated at 2,4 million (either nearly as much as in Douala), is fairly well spread across the city.In addition, since the end of the 1980 s, the government has developed the hotel infrastructure. The most striking event, although it only concerns the most affluent tourists, was probably the opening of the Hilton Hotel in 1989.
