A chiefdom containing vestiges such as the royal museum and the Achum, the most representative building in Bafut architecture.

The Bafut chiefdom is a village governed by ancestral customs. The palace's foundations date back more than two centuries, and among the oldest visible remains is the 160-year-old lower section of the Achum staircase. The Achum is the most representative building in Bafut architecture, and is also the sanctuary of the chieftaincy. The Royal Museum exhibits traditional Bafut artefacts. Ritual celebrations are organized by the chiefdom, and the title of "mfor" (traditional chief) is passed on during these ceremonies.

One of the most beautiful chiefdoms of Cameroon. Very different from the chiefdoms bamilékés found in the West, the chiefdom of Bafut is characterised by an original layout. Visit preferably in December during the traditional festivals. Otherwise, it is still possible to visit the chiefdom, its museum and see some traditional dances.
