MUSÉE DE LA LIBÉRATION NATIONALE
Museum housing a number of period weapons and equipment, paintings from the 1950s, descriptive panels..
Founded in 1952, this museum (Muzej I. Zasjedanja AVNOJ-a) does not attract many people. However, it is a historical place. It is dedicated to the first session of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation Council of Yugoslavia, which was held here from November 2 to 4, 1942. While the city was briefly liberated, partisan delegates from all over Yugoslavia laid the foundations for the future federal state that was proclaimed at the second session in Jajce a year later. Ravaged during the last war and restored in 2013, the museum houses only a few weapons and equipment of the period, paintings from the 1950s recreating the event, descriptive panels (translated into English) and a reconstruction of the room where the session was held. The trapezoidal building was built in 1939 with a donation from local residents who had emigrated to the United States. It also houses the Una-Sana Canton Museum (Muzej Unsko-Sanskog Kantona), which brings together small collections of archaeology, ethnology, and art, as well as an exhibition on the Siege of Bihać in 1992-1995. The entrance is guarded by an Italian-made Royal Yugoslav Army cannon that was used by the partisans. Across the street, the cultural center (Dom Kulture), erected in 1959 as a workers' university, preserves on its facade a large abstract fresco by the Sarajevan painter Vojo Dimitrijević (1910-1980). Events and temporary exhibitions are held here (Monday-Friday 8am-4pm).
