Bihać/Бихаћ (pronounced "bi[r]atch") has a population of about 43,000, of which 86% are Bosniaks and 8% Bosnian Croats. It is the capital of the municipality of Bihać (population 56,000) and the canton of Una-Sana (population 270,000), which is part of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The city is located 121 km southeast of Senj (on the Croatian coast), 152 km northwest of Jajce and 161 km west of Banja Luka. Bus connections: see bus station.Bordering Croatia, Bihać is the westernmost city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Founded in the 13th century, it is also one of the three oldest cities in the country. Unfortunately, since the modernization work undertaken by the Austro-Hungarians until the terrible siege of 1992-1995, it has lost most of its heritage. Its small historic center of 6 ha is therefore very fast to walk through. For all that, Bihać has much more to offer the visitor: the Una. Already renowned for its "unique" beauty(una in Latin) in Roman times, this powerful tributary of the Sava River unfolds in green meanders, roaring waterfalls and enchanting islets right into the heart of the city. You can walk along it, you can relax on the terrace of its cafés. It is also a place to live, with a wide fertile valley that extends to the border massif of Plješevica (1,657 m above sea level). Since the creation of the Una National Park, just south of the city, in 2008, the beautiful river has made Bihać a booming tourist destination with a wide range of activities: rafting, hiking, diving..
