Sokolačka Tvrđava
Medieval castle on a hill 4 km from Bihać. Its 16-meter-high tower offers superb views of the Una valley.
This "falcon" castle (Sokolačka Tvrđava) dominates the village of Sokolac (4 km southeast of Bihać) atop a hill 320 m above sea level. Partly restored since 2015, it boasts a mighty 16 m-high round tower offering superb views over the Una valley. It was first mentioned in 1385, during the conflict between Sigismund of Luxembourg and Ladislaus of Naples for the throne of Bosnia. Before its capture by the Ottomans in 1592, it had three towers, which still feature on the coat of arms of the town of Bihać.
