A symbol of Bihać, this large, 25 m-high square tower (Kapetanova Kula) stands in the south-east of the historic district. It may have been built by the Hungarians in the 13th century or by the Ottomans in the 17th century. The latter used it as a residence for the captain of the 700-strong garrison in 1789. It is also the last remaining building of the city walls, demolished in 1890. Used as a prison until 1959, the tower now houses a small museum: archaeology collection, model of the old ramparts..
