FETHIJA MOSQUE
Very rare Gothic mosque: a former Catholic church converted in 1592. Some Gothic elements on the façade.
Located on the northern square of the historic center, this mosque (Fethija Džamija) is a rare Islamic building in Gothic style. It is a former Catholic church, built in 1266 and rebuilt in the 14th century, which was transformed into a mosque in 1592 to be dedicated to the "conquest". The façade retains some Gothic elements: the 2.10 m diameter rose window and plant bas-reliefs at the base of the voussoirs. On the right, the imposing minaret base (42 m high) was built in 1863 on the site of the former bell tower.
