BRIDGE OF THE SAVE
This 755 m-long metal bridge has spanned the Save between Brčko and the Croatian town of Gunja since 1893. 24-hour border crossing.
This 755 m-long metal bridge (Savski Most/Савски Мост) spans the Save River between Brčko and Croatia. This is a former railway bridge erected by the Austro-Hungarians in 1893, which was transformed into a road bridge in 1974 and completely rebuilt in 2000. In 1992, Bosnian-Serb forces destroyed the bridge, killing over 100 civilians. Opposite, the Croatian village of Gunja (population 2,600, 30% Bosnian-Serb) is of little interest. A small road then crosses Slavonia to Vukovar (65 km to the north), on the Danube opposite Serbia.
