MOSQUE OF THE SAVE
Replica of the city's oldest mosque ( century) razed to the ground by the Bosnian Serbs in 1992. Next to the central market.
This 2006 building (Savska Džamija/Савска Џамија) is a replica of Brčko's oldest mosque, built around 1620 (or 1650) and razed to the ground by Bosnian-Serb forces in 1992. It lies slightly to the west of the Save bridge and the Ekmečić Foundation, at the confluence of the Brka and Save rivers. The urban landscape has changed since the city was founded by the Ottomans, but the mosque still adjoins the old central market (Zelena Pijaca) with its outdated stalls. The city's three other Ottoman mosques were also destroyed in 1992.
