Hram Boga Mitre
Small archaeological site housing the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to the Indo-Iranian god Mithra.
This small underground archaeological site (Hram Boga Mitre) houses the remains of a 2nd-4th century Roman temple. The walls have collapsed, but a bas-relief is well preserved: wearing a Phrygian cap, the Indo-Iranian god Mithra appears killing a bull, surrounded by two figures carrying banners. Mithraism was an Eastern mystery cult that spread to Europe from the 1st century onwards, especially among Roman soldiers. Location: 270 m north-west of the Bear Tower, on the left after the Crvena Jabuka supermarket.
