PLACE KRAJINA
Banja Luka's small central square with the Boska department store and theTwisted Clock monument, a reminder of the 1969 earthquake.
This small square (Trg Krajine/Трг Крајине) forms the center of Banja Luka, along the main street Kralja Petra I Karađorđevića. In 1969, it was the epicenter of the earthquake that destroyed 80% of the city. TheTwisted Clock monument (2009) and the surrounding buildings, all of fairly recent construction, bear witness to this. These include the Boska department store (1978), which houses a cinema and bowling alley. This modernist building occupies the former Jewish quarter, marked at the corner by Jevrejska ("Jewish") Street. Opposite is the Petar-Kočić park.
