PLACE DES PLATANES

This informal name (Trg Platana/Трг Платана) is given to the pleasant double esplanade in the city center created by the Austro-Hungarians in the early 20th century. Lined with cafe terraces and sixteen plane trees planted in 1901, this space is formed by two squares. In the east-west axis, Freedom Square (Trg Slobode/Трг Cлободе) houses the beautiful Platani Hotel. Floral Square (Cvjetni Trg/Цвјетни Трг), on the other hand, occupies the north-south axis, between the Ottoman Old Town (to the east) and the Catholic Cathedral (to the southwest). This is where the tourist office is located.
