TEKKÉ NAKŠIBENDI

This Sufi place of worship (Nakšibendijska Tekija) is one of the most beautiful buildings in Stolac. Despite its classical Ottoman style, it dates only from 2013. It was founded by Sheikh Halil Hulusi Nakšibendi el Bosnevi, born in Stolac in 1959. Quite rigorous, it is a great figure of Sufism in the country, member of the tariqa of nakshibandis, one of the four main Sufi brotherhoods in the world. The tekké provides training for about ten dervishes each year. The city had several ancient tekkés, but they all disappeared during the 20th century.
