Počiteljska Utvrda
A ruined fortress on a rocky outcrop, one of the few monuments spared by the Croatian Defence Committee.
Situated on a rocky spur 100 m above sea level, this ruined fortress (Počiteljska Utvrda) dominates the entire historic town with its mighty 20 m-high octagonal tower. The tower was erected during the reign of the Bosnian kings in the late 14th century and rebuilt after Počitelj was taken by the Ottomans in 1471. The rest of the fortifications and other towers were added and remodeled until the 18th century. Abandoned in the following century, it is one of the few monuments to have been spared by the Croatian Defense Committee in 1993.
