Catholic pilgrimage site not recognized by the Vatican. Four children claim to have seen an apparition of the Virgin Mary here in 1981.
This 370 m high hill (Brdo Ukazanja) lies above the hamlet of Podbrdo, 2.3 km southeast of the Church of St. James in Međugorje. This is where four of the six "witness" children from Međugorje say they had their first miraculous apparition of the Virgin together on June 24, 1981. Once known as "Black Soil Hill" (Brdo Crnica), the place has become an important Catholic pilgrimage site (not recognized by the Vatican). The difficult path leads to the statue of Our Lady, known as the "Queen of Peace", installed here in 2001.
