Gimnazija Mostar
Mostar's landmark building, built in 1902 in the neo-Moorish style and modelled on Sarajevo's Vijećnica.
Dominating Spanish Square, this high school (Gimnazija Mostar)'s triangular shape, orange color and neo-Moorish style evoke the Vijećnica, Sarajevo's emblematic town hall. It was completed in 1902 to plans by Czech architect František Blažek (1863-1944). Damaged during the last war, since 2009 it has housed three separate schools: one Bosnian-Croat, another Bosnian and a private high school for pupils of all origins. The latter is a model for bringing communities together.
