Baba Beširova Džamija
One of Mostar's oldest mosques, to the west of the city. Founded around 1570, blown up in 1993, rebuilt in 2000.
This mosque (Baba Beširova Džamija) is one of the oldest in Mostar. It marks the entrance to the Balinovac district, 200 m southwest of the Cathedral of Mary Mother of the Church, along the M6.1 national road. Surrounded by walls, it was founded around 1570 by Beşir Ağa, an Ottoman officer who received the honorary title of baba ("father" in Turkish). Blown up in May 1993, along with the Hadži-Ali-Bey-Lafa mosque, it was rebuilt in 2003. It is frequented by some Bosnians who have returned to Balinovac. The courtyard is home to some old nişans (tombs).
