First high-altitude astronomical observatory, now an astrophysics observatory where scientists work today.
Two strange monuments with large domes isolated in the forest above Abastoumani. In 1892 the first high altitude astronomical observatory in Russia was founded there. In 1932 it became an astrophysical observatory.
Scientists are still working there today. The funicular to get there from the village doesn't always work. It is possible to climb there on foot (at the top of Abastoumani, on the right opposite the Arazindo sanatorium). A meeting point between science and a magnificent view of the valley.

Fuyez cet attrape touristes!
The observatory was renovated but it still cotai outdated. That recalls both Tintin and James Bond. There is now a hotel on the territory of the observatory. It is without charm but very clean and well maintained. During the summer it is stormed by the local tourists from Tbilisi.
