Historic cellar of the Hospices de Strasbourg, in existence since 1395, with the world's oldest wine in barrels

The historic cellar of the Hospices de Strasbourg dates back to 1395, and was used as early as the Middle Ages to store wine, grain and other perishable goods. 600 years later, it has retained its original function. The sumptuous vaulted cellar exudes the aromas of wines stored in some fifty restored oak rooms and three historic foudres dating from 1472, 1519 and 1525. The oldest contains the oldest cask wine in the world!

C'est Françoise, une amie alsacienne qui nous a suggéré cette visite. Qu'elle en soit remerciée!
Ces caves sont un lieu historique et insolite où l'on découvre un patrimoine hospitalier et viticole exceptionnel, à commencer par le plus vieux vin blanc en fût au monde (1472).
Et la visite est totalement gratuite! S'en priver serait une ignominie.
