37 000 inhabitants, district centre, 75 km southeast of Tioumen, on the left bank of Tobol. The city developed from a prison built in 1639 at the location of the remains of the town of Yavlou-Tour.In 1872, the city became the head of the general government of Tobolsk and, from the th century, a place of political exile. Poutstchine, friend of the Pushkin poet, and the Décembristes Mouraviev, Bassarguine, Obolenski, Tcherkassov and Yakouchkine have spent long years of exile.They were at the origin of the creation of a school for the children of the city and villages in the vicinity. The Décembristes museum is located in the house where Mouraviev lived.Slowly developing, Yaloutorovsk remained, until the October revolution, a small town with a few artisanal businesses. Today, the key sectors of its economy are the canned milk industry, the butchery, the repair plants for agricultural machinery, the armed concrete products and sawmills.
