These include the Practical (so-called Real) School, built in 1878, and its Renaissance-style building, designed by Vorotilov, an architect and painter from St. Petersburg. In the centre of the square is a monumental cast iron sculpture in honour of the workers and peasants of the USSR, inaugurated in 1957, cast in a local factory.
