SPIRULINA LAKE

It is 25 km from Mao, towards Nokou. You can ask the cultural centre someone to drive you there. Its waters with rust and green reflections contain the famous spirulina, a highly-rich blue algae that the inhabitants call dié. Spirulina abounds in polders and marshes with waters rich in natron in the region. It is used in food and cosmetic products. You can see, in the vicinity of the lake, the squares of settling that allow the evaporation of water and its concentration in spirulina.
