Hatchet Bay is 19 km from the Governor's Harbour Airport and is known for its network of caves running more than 2 km underground and home to many bats circling among the stalagmites and stalactites. For a long time, Hatchet Bay was the capital of the Bahamas for chicken and dairy farming. Today, only the silos that were once used as cattle feed stores remain. Its peaceful little beach is very pleasant. It has become one of the best anchorages in the Bahamas since the creation of a passage to the sea in 1940. Previously, it was just an inland lake with little interest.
