WADI MIBAM
Wadi Mibam is perhaps one of the most beautiful wadis in the region, and has the advantage of still being relatively uncrowded. Difficult access is undoubtedly one of the reasons for this. To get there, you follow the road that crosses Wadi Tiwi and passes through several villages until you reach Mibam. The otherwise magnificent track narrows as you go along, to the point where in some places it's impossible to pass an oncoming vehicle without having to back off. A 4x4 is indispensable, and it's essential to be comfortable with mountain driving on narrow tracks. At Mibam, there is a parking area. From here, a staircase of over a hundred steps leads down into the palm grove. Don't hesitate to ask the locals for directions - they'll be happy to point you in the right direction. Alternatively, local guides are available for a few Omani rials. Once you've reached the bottom of the stairs, you'll quickly come to some superb waterfalls and natural pools. The site is grandiose, the water turquoise, the vegetation lush, and the place still exclusive. A word of advice: go early in the morning or at the end of the day to avoid visitors, but above all to benefit from a clear road. As always in the wadis, don't venture out alone, without water or sun cream, and check the weather forecast well in advance. Wadi Mibam is certainly not the easiest to access, but if you're comfortable on mountain roads, it's well worth the effort!
