This castle is bounded by the Place d'Armes where there is a citadel and the Clock Tower.

Surrounded by its stone wall reinforced with towers, it is bounded by the Place d'Armes where there is a citadel and the Clock Tower. On the road to independence from the Spanish, João IV consolidated the fortress by building a new wall based on the model of the French architect Vauban, adapted to the artillery fire of the time. To see: the arenas of the castle where shows and bullfights used to take place and the round path which offers a sublime view over the valley and lakes of the region.

Le château du joli petit village de Monsaraz surplombe l'immense lac d'Alqueva. Une vue magnifique sur la nature.

Il domine le petit village tout blanc qui lui-même surplombe la vallée tout près de la frontière espagnole. Il bénéficiait à l'époque d'une double rangée de remparts, il ne subsiste que des vestiges de celle à l'extérieur.
Depuis les remparts, magnifique point de vue sur la vallée et notamment le lac.
Ce chateau vaut bien un petit détours.

Old castle in the beautiful medieval village, panoramic view of the valley, vineyards and lake formed by the dam. You must stop and wander in the narrow streets to soak up the atmosphere of this enchanting place.
