The Islamic Museum of Mértola offers an excellent overview of the life of the Muslim community between the 10th and 12th centuries.

The must-see Islamic Museum of Mértola, located south of the city in the former grain warehouses of the Dukes of Braganza, offers an excellent insight into life in the Almohad period between the 10th and 12th centuries. Inside, you'll find ceramics, weapons, coins, glassware and a collection of pottery painted using the corda seca technique. An interesting video draws parallels between the traditions of today's local farmers and certain Arab communities in the Maghreb.
