OMAR MUSEUM
The museum exhibits over types of mines and an impressive collection of pistols, weapons, rockets, Scud missiles, tanks and even aircraft. Most of these pieces date back to the Soviet war (1979-1989). It is rather surreal. Omar is the name of the first demining mission in Afghanistan: Organization for Mine Clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation. This NGO, created in 1990, educates the population, including children, on the recognition of mines and provides them with means to protect themselves. It is the most effective organization for mine prevention. In particular, it uses the visual to impress on young people the dangers they face, because it is children who are the first victims of mines in Afghanistan. Omar employs over 500 Afghans throughout the country and is undertaking a programme for the social reintegration of persons with disabilities.
