KAZEMATTEN - CASEMATES

The casemates are part of a huge and complex system of underground fortifications built between 1575 and 1825, of which only a small part (about 14 km) remains. The visit lasts about an hour and plunges us into the city's past. The system, of an impressive ingenuity, includes trap pits, caponiers, listening posts... The visit is instructive and brings to life the key stages of military offensives. This network was used as an anti-aircraft shelter during the Second World War and could hold more than 15,000 people.
