BIRD ISLAND
Bird Island is a 3-hectare islet within walking distance of a colony of cormorants and Cape gannets.
How many of them are there? Thousands of them! Millions of them! Since 1959, a dike has provided dry access to this 3-hectare islet, which is home to a colony of cormorants and Cape gannets. There's also a fine colony of penguins to discover. The smell of guano is quite heady! For a few rands, take refuge in the shelter... On the Cape Nature website, you'll find plenty of information on the country's nature reserves, animal conservation and the various places to observe the different species concerned.
