Springbok is called the "capital" of Namaqualand, the land of a thousand flowers. The many antelopes that galloped around the area gave their name to Springbokfontein and then, in 1862, to the town of Springbok. In summer, under the bluest of skies, you will discover a peaceful town of almost 12,000 inhabitants, surrounded by copper-coloured hills. The town is a good stopover if you're heading to Namibia, to Augrabies Falls NP and then to Kalahari NP, and to stay in a comfortable guesthouse, but prefer the camps in the parks for a more "natural" view, doing all your shopping in Springbok before you go.
