It is the only natural area in the country where three different ecosystems coexist on some 22 000 ha: the Karoo veld, the Kalahari veld and the grassveld. This park, which replaces the Vaalbos, is located on the Wintershoek farm. It is accessible from the N12, 57 km south of Kimberley, then track west towards Hayfield Gate for 21 km. This is a truly African wilderness safari park with red earth, tall grass and game animals around every bend, visitors to the national park will enjoy many sightings such as black and white rhino, nyala, giraffe and bat-eared fox as well as Cape buffalo and hippotrague. The park's guided game drives are well worth booking, especially after sunset to see nocturnal animals that are rarely seen by car. For other activities, you can also go guided horseback riding or mountain biking. The surrounding area is rich in rock art engravings and visitors can take a guided tour to view the art and learn more about the cultural heritage of the area. The reserve is also known for offering great bird watching. The list, which shows 139 species, is growing. Birdwatching enthusiasts will be delighted to look up to the sky and admire the spectacle. At Mokala National Park, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape from all sides.
