Kimberley is a town in South Africa, situated at an altitude of 1,230 meters in the Northern Cape province. It is famous for its Big Hole diamond mine. Located in the middle of the Great Karoo Desert, Kimberley offers a unique landscape and a fascinating history. The town is administered by the Sol Plaatje municipality. According to the 2011 census, Kimberley has a population of around 96,977. The Kimberley urban area, including the townships of Galeshewe and Roodepan, has a population of around 225,160. The majority mother tongue is Afrikaans, followed by Setswana and South African English.
