Vietnam Airlines advises that passengers should arrive at the airport at least 2.5 hours in advance for international flights and 2 hours in advance for domestic flights (boarding procedures stop 30 minutes before departure). The journey from the city center to the airport takes between 35 and 50 minutes. Bus 86 makes this journey and serves Hanoi Old Quarter (stop at Long Bien), costing 45,000 VND per person. Given the increasingly frequent traffic jams, it's a good idea to leave yourself a comfortable margin of maneuver.
